Roll Necks

Roll necks are fast becoming a wardrobe staple for the colder months. The added warmth is a bonus but they also provide an elegant alternative to shirts. There are many ways that they can be worn: with smart jackets, with cardigans, with overcoats and by themselves. They also go well with a range of trousers, from denim jeans to chinos, to flannels. They can also be worn with a more casually styled suit.

The fit should be as close as possible without looking skin tight. The bottom of the body should just cover the waistband / belt of the trousers. They come in different weights, depending on how warm you want them to be. The finer versions, for example from John Smedley, are very elegant and go well with smarter outfits.

I think that darker colours are more versatile for roll necks – navy, midnight, dark brown, dark grey – but colours such as mid grey also go well when paired with navy or brown, for example.
