In bright, sunny weather it can be nice to wear an outfit that incorporates a brightly coloured summer jacket. These might be appropriate for the office under some circumstances but you will get more use out of them in social situations. You can always take the jacket to the office and then put it on later if it’s going to stand out too much during office hours. In this article, we will discuss the styling of a couple of examples and look at some other options for how men can incorporate brightly coloured jackets into their rotation.

Blue silk/wool/linen jacket

The first jacket is a light blue wool / silk / linen blend. As we have seen in our article on mens’ jackets, this is one of the best fabrics for a summer jacket. The summery colour suits the lightness of the fabric. The fabric has white yarns mixed in which adds texture and a lighter appearance. This colour jacket is less versatile than other colours though. As it’s such a striking tone, you don’t want to pair it with other bold colours. It goes best with either a white or navy blue shirt. In this case it is worn with a navy polo shirt and cream cotton trousers. 

The construction is typical Neapolitan style which is in keeping with the summery feel. The jacket is half-lined which keeps it cooler. The button stance is 3-roll-2 and there are hip patch pockets. Red pure linen jacket

The second example is even more unusual, being a red linen jacket. Pure linen is a great fabric for a summer jacket and this one has a herringbone weave with some white yarns in the mix which also gives it a lighter appearance. Linen will crumple more than the wool/silk/linen blends but this can be an attractive feature for a casual style. 

This jacket has a bit more structure to it, but it is still very much in the casual category. This is mainly due to the colour and the linen fabric. This type of colour is unlikely to be appropriate in a professional setting as it is so conspicuous. The design is also a bit more unusual in that it has a single front button and peak lapels, which makes it stand out a bit more than a typical jacket would. The design also has hip patch pockets. 

Again, there a fewer options for how to wear this type of colour jacket. Here, it is worn with white denim jeans and a navy cotton polo shirt. You want to keep the other items fairly muted as the jacket is such a statement piece. There are some more linen jacket examples here.
