This is a casual summer outfit that is understate but elegant. It would be appropriate for casual Fridays in the office or weekends.

The trousers are 100% linen in a a 12/13 oz weight. This gives them enough weight to drape nicely while the nature of linen means that they wear cool and allow some breeze through. They are constructed with side tabs and have a fairly high rise (meaning that the waistband is worn a bit higher than usual). They also have turn ups (or cuffs) which adds a bit more informality. It’s better to have them made so that they bottom of the hems just brushed the top of the shoes or leaves a slight gap. This can easily be altered by a tailor quite cheaply. The colour is cream / oatmeal which is one of the most versatile colours for these types of trousers. They are also not too light coloured so they can pick up a bit of dirt without needing to be washed often.

The top is a high twist wool which makes it wear cooler than typical wools and makes it appropriate in a hot weather. The collar is bigger than typical polo shirts which gives it a more sartorial appearance. It is also constructed in a way that will make it stand up as much as possible and not collapse. It has a ribbed hem at the waist and sleeves which gives it a more compact appearance.

The shoes are equally summery, being unlined dark brown tassel loafers. These are ideal for wearing without socks which is a good way to make an outfit look more casual and keep you cooler.
Whilst these are timeless colours for this type of outfit, there are almost infinite ways that we can vary the colours and fabric to achieve a similarly smart casual look. As it’s designed for summer and the focus is on the casual side, lighter coloured trousers such as white, olive, or pastel colours would work well. There is a even more variation potential for the top. The shoes can also be lighter browns.
